If you’ve taken my newborn class, you know that I am big on baby proofing and safety. Did you know, for example, that furniture falling on kids is one of the leading causes of injuries for young children? It’s super scary to think about.
Obviously, I want to keep my littles safe, but can I make a confession? I also want to minimize my stress level over all this. Being a mom to three kids is hard enough, I don’t also need to add the fear of them getting hurt, or into cabinets, or eating the dog food… not that um, that’s ever, um, happened? Ahem.
We have moved a fair amount over the last few years, and each time we’ve ended up getting new baby-proofing gear—so I’ve been around the baby-proofing block.
And these are my favorite cabinet locks for sure.
1. They are the least obtrusive looking.
They are flat and don’t stick off far from the surface of the cabinet. They are also monotone which helps them blend in better. We got them in white, but they also come in brown and tan.
2. I can open them with one hand.
My left arm is inevitably always holding something—bags, a child, a dog, a child and a dog… so I need everything to be one-hand-operable. This lock just needs a quick squeeze of the fingers and it opens easily. But not too easily…
3. They work!
Of my three kids, only my seven-year-old can actually open these. They’ve also really held up. I’ve had them for a few months now(!) and they still work just as well, even after a lot of attempts to dislodge them by my over-enthusiastic four-year-old.
4. They are adjustable.
They are 7.6 inches long but can be made shorter if you need.
5. So easy.
No drilling required, just 2 simple (but powerful) 3M stickers and it’s on!
In short, I would hands-down recommend these locks to keep little hands off what they shouldn’t touch.
Happy baby proofing!
